Managing Multiple Budgets
Learn when and how to create more than one budget, such as separating personal and shared finances.
Managing Multiple Budgets
One budget is enough for most people, but you’re not limited to it. Moniqo lets you create as many budgets as you need, each with its own accounts, envelopes, and transactions.
When to Create More Than One Budget
A few common reasons people create a second (or third) budget:
- Personal vs. Household: keep your own spending separate from shared household expenses.
- Personal vs. Business: track a small business or side project independently from your personal finances.
- A specific project: set up a dedicated budget for something time-bound, like planning a wedding or a home renovation.
Each budget is completely independent. Nothing is shared between them, not accounts, envelopes, or transactions.
Steps
- From your dashboard, choose the option to create a new budget.
- Give it a clear, distinct name. Budget names must be unique, so something specific like “Household” or “Freelance Work” works better than a generic label.
- Choose the currency for this budget.
- Switch between your budgets from the budget selector whenever you need to move between them.
Tips
- Use clear, specific names so you always know which budget you’re in.
- Each budget tracks its own accounts and envelopes independently: updates in one budget never affect another.
- You don’t need to plan ahead for every use case. Create a new budget whenever a new, separate need for one comes up.
